Il film si apre con dei video tratti da filmati di guerra in bianco e nero, per poi passare all'immagine a colore dal titolo di testa. In un preambolo, un narratore esterno descrive alcuni pianeti del Sistema Solare, spiegando così i motivi per i quali i Marziani hanno deciso di conquistare la Terra, trovandola il mondo più abitabile e colonizzabile rispetto alle atmosfere ostili e inabitabili degli altri pianeti.
H.G. Wells' classic novel is brought to life in this tale of alien invasion. The residents of a small town in California are excited when a flaming meteor lands in the hills. Their joy is tempered somewhat when they discover that it has passengers who are not very friendly.
