Un uomo accusato di omicidio si dichiara non colpevole e afferma che i crimini da lui commessi sono stati opera di una possessione demoniaca. I coniugi Warren sono chiamati a indagare sulla legittimità di quest'affermazione e scoprono un'attività paranormale non ben definita.
Anni Ottanta. Ritroviamo ancora una volta i coniugi Warren alle prese con un oscuro mistero, che soltanto le loro abilità potranno risolvere. Il caso forse più sconvolgente che abbiano mai affrontato, anche perché il Male sembra assumere ogni volta nuove forme per riuscire a colpire sempre più forte.
Protagonista della vicenda sarà un uomo accusato di aver ucciso il proprietario della casa nella quale abitava. Ma, se dalle premesse la storia non sembra molto differente da quanto la cronaca abbia raccontato in altre occasioni, la particolarità che i Warren dovranno fronteggiare consisterà nelle dichiarazioni che l’assassino continua a proporre: egli, infatti, invoca una possessione demoniaca. Sarebbe essa, a suo dire, la vera responsabile del crimine commesso…
