The season began with terrible weather. The Maverick didn't even leave the harbour, The Cornelia Marie had to turn back, but Time Bandit managed to get out and had started to bring in the crab. As another storm is expected the men on Rollo are up at 4.30am to get pots into the water. Then the crane develops a leak of hydraulic fluid, and Cornelia Marie is limping back to harbour for repairs to the engine.

Five days into the season the Maverick is finally ready to drop its first pots, the Northwestern's crew have to climb six metres above the deck to fix their jammed crane, and the Rollo is in unknown territory but their gamble has not paid off and they keep pulling in females, which have to be thrown back to protect the future crab population. Things get even worse when they hit a blizzard and their GPS packs up.

After a disappointing start to the season Sig Hansen and the crew of the Northwestern have a change in fortune and start to pull in full pots, but it's short-lived as one of the hydraulic lifts malfunctions. The Maverick also begins to make up for lost time, with Captain Rick claiming it to be the best fishing he has ever seen, while the Rollo is boarded by the coast guard.

The season is drawing to a close, but there's still time for an 18-metre wave to knock the Aleutian Ballad on its side, and the power goes out. The Time Bandit is also hit by a huge wave. Meanwhile, there's banter as Northwestern captain Sig Hansen hauls a Corneila Marie pot, puts a collection of his crew's underwear inside, welds it shut and throws it back in.

The fishermen prepare for the Opelio crab season. Having battled addiction, Mark Bradley is grateful to captain Sig Hansen of the Northwestern for giving him a second chance. With bad weather forecast, the Northwestern fish for cod before heading to the crab grounds. The cod fishing grind lasts three days of non-stop work, followed by a race back to port to unload.

Andy receives two warnings about an ice pack heading towards the Time Bandit but decides to keep putting more pots in the water, knowing he is taking a gamble. The Cornelia Marie has been in Dutch Harbor for three days: tension is growing and Phil argues with his son Jake, who wants to get back out and earn more money. The Maverick and the Rollo, meanwhile, both run into bad weather.

The Maverick is in danger of losing 30 pots. Rick can only see ice and buoys, so he decides to send the men to bed and continue the search in the morning. Meanwhile, the Rollo has been fined and has to unload earlier than expected, the Time Bandit's gamble of heading north hasn't paid off, and the Cornelia Marie, which has had a tough season, is still fishing but is surrounded by ice.
