'Elsie asks the Barlows to be witnesses but they can\'t. Handel Gartside returns to Weatherfield after thirty-three years in Canada. Ena and Minnie remember him and they tell him of the death of Martha Longhurst six years previously. Len and Bet turn up at the Registry Office and surprise Alan and Elsie as their witnesses. Irma and Bet move into the flat. Elsie and Alan marry. The residents throw a surprise party at the Rovers for the Howards before they honeymoon in Paris. Ray tells Len that Alan, despite signs of wealth, owes them £350 and it looks as if he has money troubles.' |
