Synopsis

Discovery Channel is setting out on a real-life treasure hunt in the new local production, Outback Opal Hunters. Heading to Lightning Ridge (NSW), Opalton (QLD), and opal mecca, Coober Pedy (SA), the series follows crews of fearless opal miners on their mission to unearth a fortune in some of Australia's harshest and remote landscapes.

The stakes are real as these crews risk it all in their quest to strike it rich. Outback Opal Hunters is a rollercoaster of hope and heartbreak as we delve deep inside the world of opal mining to find out just what it is that has our crews hooked on the hunt.

Australia produces more than 90% of the world's opals. Hidden beneath outback desert plains lies a hidden bounty, 30 million years in the making, waiting to be discovered. Opals are one of the most valuable gemstones on the planet - one stone alone can fetch a million dollars - and it's the dream of striking it rich that drives these crews to push their bodies and bank accounts to breaking point.

Season 14 - Episode 7



The Misfits return to their claim and find it's been soaked by torrential rain. The Opal Lovers dig an intimidatingly deep trench on their Digger's Gully claim. The Bushmen are down on their luck once again, with Jake absent from work with a broken jaw.

Season 14 - Episode 8



The Opal Whisperers are on a mission to unearth something worthwhile from their newly excavated 9-meter-deep trench. Aging machinery slows The Bushmen down. The Cheals are finally doubling the output from their Turner's Rush claim.

Season 14 - Episode 9



The Opal Lovers excavate old drives in search of red crystal opal. Mechanical problems are once again giving the Mooka Boys a headache. Slim Pickings strike a deal with a local mining family to process the waste dirt on their claim.

Season 14 - Episode 10



The Blacklighters are pushing for a big pay day. With weather threatening their operation, the Misfits have to get crafty with their setup. The Opal Whisperers are feeling the pressure after Isaac is invited to be a star guest of the London Gem Show.

Season 14 - Episode 11



The Blacklighters have just one week left to strike opal before the blistering summer heat shuts them down. The Bushmen scramble to beat mechanical failures and rising temperatures. The Mooka Boys are reunited with their chief mechanic Leif Tanzer.

Season 14 - Episode 12



The Misfits are left to fend for themselves as mentor and financier ‘Opal’ Joe Kalmar's health takes a turn for the worse. The Bushmen are desperate to beat the 45-degree heat and salvage what's left of their season.
